Numerous studies show that people who are physically active and fit are less likely to experience back pain and injuries. They are also more likely to recover faster from their injuries than those who are less physically fit.

Just like titanium can easily bear more encumbrance than aluminum sheets, a strong back can withstand more strain and provide better protection for the spine. The back and abdominal regions are usually conditioned through exercise, helping to perpetuate flexibility and stability. Well-conditioned leg and hip muscles can also relieve pain from a variety of back ailments.

One of the best ways to prevent back pain or a herniated disc is to stabilize the muscle core. Quite often, people experience back pain because the muscles in the back are forced to over compensate for the abdominal muscles, probably due to an improper posture. Strengthening the core regions can stabilize the spine, allow for ideal spinal movement, as well as maintain the correct posture.

Core exercises for strengthening the back

At the Burke Chiropractic Center, Dr. Barrett and his experienced team of chiropractors work with patients day by day to treat back pain. Almost all pain management plans are composed of a couple of simple exercises that carefully strengthen the back and abdominal muscles to help speed up the recovery process and prevent further injury. These exercises are fairly easy to do so you can even do them in the comfort of your home.

Common exercises like squats, side planks, hip bridges, and lunges will help build back strength. Doing one or more of them each day will condition your spine and lower and upper back, keeping them healthy and considerably reducing the potential for back pain stiffness and long-term discomfort.

Are these exercises for me?

As always, if you constantly experience bouts of back pain, be sure to check with your family chiropractor first before getting into any exercise routine. Moreover, keep in mind that having strong muscles in your legs and hips allow for the execution of proper lifting techniques and body mechanics, so your exercise should be as holistic as possible.
